I have been sitting on my new porch now for three months, and I just realized that there are ugly electrical polls and lines going to each house up and down each street. It took me months of sitting in the same place to ‘see’ that which has been there far longer than my mere three months. This realization brought to me the “aha” moment of how easy it is to not notice something that is right in plane sight and in front of us. Ugliness that we are dependent on but ignored because we feel we need it. It got me thinking about all the things in my life that I was unaware of for so long, although they were always in plain sight.
I began to ponder this. How could I not see these ugly black lines, polls laden with junction boxes and extra wire that were up and down each street covering and weaving around all the beautiful trees? We see what we want to see. We give our attention to the things we feel are valuable in our lives. We do not always see or recognize the ugliness right in front of us.
Becoming self-aware is a process and we have to be intentional when undertaking it or we fail to be open to all the positives and negatives in our lives. If we truly want to receive, then we have to be honest about where we are ignoring or distracting ourselves from the bad: situations, relationships, and self-sabotage.
It is not easy to look at your foibles. We don’t want to ‘see’ our faults, hurts or bad choices and behaviors. No, we want to have things be easy and pleasant. Unfortunately, that is not how it works. We are brought to our foibles until we do something with them: transform the negative into the positive.
The getting clear on what to transform…that is the icky part. We have to delve deep into our own patterns of behavior. Really look at what choices we have made and why?! Not fun stuff. And, we have to do this continuously as we are works in progress the whole way. (I have struggled with this…each time I have transformed a trauma or drama in my life I have wanted to be done…I have learned there is always more to do…another layer or a different trauma or drama.) The good news? Is that we can start to receive more of the good in our present day by positively impacting what we have been carrying or sabotaging!
Energy cannot be destroyed. It is a law. We have to transform it. So, all those traumas and dramas have to be transformed. But, before we can do that we have to recognize that they are there. We have to be open to “seeing” and becoming self-aware of our choices, our patterns, our distractions, our self-soothing mechanisms and change what is not good or negative in our lives.
Sometimes what is holding us back is deeply suppressed or hidden in our sub-conscious. These blockages can be debilitating. Talk therapy, counseling, working with a psychiatrist, and other modalities can be beneficial…I recommend that you go in the direction of your choice. *see Disclaimer tab
